GBC Police expose identity theft operation

By ART LAWLER

GUN BARREL CITY — A minor traffic stop in the 2200 Block of West Main by Officer Ken Bee and Sgt. Patrick Johnson, resulted in local police exposing a large identity theft operation.

Bee recognized the the driver’s description of a suspect from an earlier reported forgery at the CVS store in GBC.

Tonya Nichols McDonald, 47, of Seagoville was arrested and taken to Henderson County Jail where she remains in custody.

During that stop police recovered 48 personal and business checks and several forged Texas driver’s license renewal permits recently.

Last week Investigator Kalon Rollins finished the investigation and forwarded 15 felony cases on McDonald to the Henderson County District Attorney’s office for the offense of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information and tampering with a governmental record.

All of the victims of this identify theft were from different locations around the Dallas and Fort Worth areas.

During the investigation, Rollins learned that many of the victims had lost checks and mail from their personal mailboxes.
