KEMP — A late afternoon thunderstorm resulted in a Cedar Creek Country Club home being ignited by lightning Sunday.
The home of Mildred Sigman at 17481 Country Club Drive, was hit as the storm passed through about 5 p.m.
She was home at the time but was not injured.
Firefighters from Gun Barrel City, Kemp and Mabank arrived and quickly extinguished the fire, preserving all but the roof of the home, according to Mabank Fire Chief Kyle McAtee.
“We got there and found the fire in the attic area,” said McAtee. “When the air got to it, it just exploded. So Kemp and Gun Barrel came.”
It was a busy weekend for firefighters in the lake area, with one fire in Gun Barrel City, two in Seven Points, and the fire at Cedar Creek Country Club.
