Holiday weekend pretty quiet
By Travis Kees
GUN BARREL CITY — For a Fourth-of-July holiday, this past weekend was relatively tame in the Cedar Creek Lake area.
Sgt. Damon Boswell of the Gun Barrel City Police Department, said there were no major incidents in his city.
That’s not to say there wasn’t a shoe theft.
A man at The Shoe Dept. in the 1100 block of West Main put on a new pair of shoes and took off — on foot.
The new footwear got him the 23-year-old to the Whataburger parking lot a couple of blocks away.
Four minors were booked for drinking in Gun Barrel City Jail.
There was also one marijuana bust when a driver was pulled over on a routine traffic stop.
Add to that a couple of DWI’s and five BWI’s in boats on the lake, not to mention the four residential burglaries on Autumwood Trail, and that’s about it.
Those burglaries were all weekend homes, and entry was gained from the backside facing the lake each time.
Mabank Chief of Police Kyle McAfee was happy that Mabank had a nice, quiet holiday weekend, too.
According to Kendall Wellman of the Tool Police Department, his department had just a few drunk and disorderly calls, some fireworks and violation calls.
There was also a minor boating accident that occurred in the Loon Bay area involving two personal watercraft owned by Jason Sebastion, according to Game Warden Shawn Smith.
Smith also noted that he and and three other wardens, issued the five BWI (boating while intoxicated) citations.
Sgt. Bobby Shields with the Department of Public Safety noted that he and his office where running an operation over the holiday, called C.A.R.E, (Combined Accident Reduction Effort.)
He said that over the weekend DPS issued three DUIs, 32 speeding citations, 10 seat belt citations and worked 13 highway collisions, including one alcohol related collision, and six motorists assists.
There where reports in North Texas about several drownings, but none in Cedar Creek Lake.
According to the Associated press, in the North Texas area, several lakes claimed lives.
Lake Lewisville was the site of four drownings, and Lake Grapevine had one drowning.
Lake Ray Roberts claimed one life, and Joe Pool Lake also took one life.
According to the reports, alcohol was a factor in two of the incidents.
