Eaton re-elected by seven votes

By ART LAWLER

GUN BARREL CITY — Councilman Marty Goss’s gamble failed Saturday in his attempt to unseat incumbent Mayor Paul Eaton.

Citizens decided Eaton should be their mayor for another term, but not by much.

The final total in last week’s mayoral runoff election for the City of Gun Barrel showed Eaton with 162 votes and Goss with 155.

There has been no indication of a recount, and despite repeated requests for comment from the Pilot, neither man has returned the calls.

Goss had voluntarily given up his council seat to seek the mayor’s job.

In announcing his decision, Goss said he was doing so to bring more leadership to the council, which he said had not accomplished much in the last two year.

Goss was a frequent critic of current council members, especially Kathy Cochran and Todd Hogan, had repeatedly asked the two to turn in their resignations for the good of the city when they got into a dispute over funds requested by Heritage Park Contractor, Ken Landers.

As it turns out, Hogan Cochran and Eaton remain on the council, and Goss is out.
