Seven Points escapee arrested in RV park

Man arrested at the same place he evaded police after 25 days on the run

By Rich Flowers

A 44-year-old man who escaped from Seven Points police on May 6, was arrested Saturday at a RV park on State Highway 85.

Quinten Lewis Bush was held in the Henderson County Jail Monday on felony charges of escape and possession of a controlled substance. Bush also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and theft of property in excess of $50 and less than $500. Total bond on Bush was set at $19,500. He had also been wanted on two Seven Points Municipal Court warrants.

Asst. Chief of Police Rodney Henderson said Sgt. Brad Hendricks, acting on a tip, went to the park at 9:03 p.m. Saturday, in search of Bush. There, he located the runaway and apprehended the subject without incident. Further details of the arrest were not available, Henderson said.

Saturday’s arrest came 25 days after the original arrest. That night, Hendricks went to a residence on Village Avenue to serve a misdemeanor warrant on Bush.

“It is a shack without running water,” Henderson said. “The driveway was blocked so the officer had to leave his car and approach the house on foot. The resident had set up several barricades, making the approach to the residence slow.”

As Hendricks neared the entrance he heard someone exit the house and run into a wooded area to the northeast. Hendricks left, but a short time later he returned to the site. This time he located Bush in a pick-up truck bed that had been converted into a camper. The officer ordered Bush out of the vehicle and placed him under arrest.

The charges against Bush began to multiply, Henderson said, when Hendricks saw that Bush had a spoon and a baggie containing a controlled substance that appeared to be methamphetamine.

Hendricks handcuffed Bush to the tailgate of the truck as he finished his work at the scene.

“There’s a little latch on the side of the tailgate that is used to take (the tailgate) off. He was able to take the latch apart and escape. Brad looked up and he was gone,” Henderson said.

In the days that followed, Seven Points police continued to search the area for the escapee. Henderson said they had remained confident they would be able to locate Bush.

Finally, Saturday night the break came.

“It was only a matter of time before Brad caught him,” Henderson said.

Henderson said the investigation was slowed by the reluctance of residents in the area to talk.
