Moore pulls from council race

Dean Moore concedes from runoff for Seven Points City Council

By TRAVIS KEES

Last week Seven Points City Council election was a close race between Dean Moore and Richard “Yankee” Smith.

Moore had seemed to be the victor by a mere single vote, with 25 votes for Moore and 24 votes for Smith.

But after a recount on Friday May 16 by a four person recount committee appointed by City Secretary Debbie Mosley the outcome was a decidedly different. A tie.

The resulting tie was to force a runoff between Moore and Smith.

After hearing this news Moore spoke with Mayor Gerald Taylor and conceded, pulling from the race citing that he did not want to drag it out at the city’s expense.
