The emergency declaration issued by Henderson County Judge David Holstein Feb. 28 prohibiting outdoor burning has expired, leaving the county without a burn ban in force for the first time in a month.
The seven-day emergency ban expired at midnight Friday. In the disaster declaration, Holstein said the county was in danger of widespread or severe damage, injury or loss of property as a result of wildfires. Recent rains have given the county some relief from the fire danger.
According to information from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, calls to county fire departments decreased considerably as the seven days progressed.
The Henderson County Commissioners Court imposed a bun ban Feb. 8 with the intention of reassessing the fire danger March 4. There was no discussion of the ban Tuesday and the 30-day period ended without any further action.
